Summer Season - Round 9

Published Tue 01 Apr 2025

In A Grade at Mount Gambier Show Hall, Alpha Bet secured a hard-fought 9-5 victory over the Teletubbies on Table 7, driven by Leigh Barry’s exceptional performance, winning three matches, including a commanding straight-set sweep over Dammy Otusanya. Youssef Malicdem kept the Teletubbies in contention with a decisive straight-set win over Justin Hutchesson, and Jordan Miller added a gritty four-set triumph against Hutchesson, but Alpha Bet’s depth, with contributions from Pawan Silwal and Aaron McPhee, proved too strong. On Table 9, The Combos outlasted Speckled Pimples 9-5, led by Felix Owusu’s three dominant victories, including a rout of Ward Freeman in straight sets. Sirinat Sweet bolstered the effort with a four-set win over Robin Pellen, while Ben Newman pushed Owusu to five sets in a valiant but futile stand, cementing The Combos’ status as a formidable A Grade contender alongside Alpha Bet in this competitive season.

In B Grade, The Dreamers delivered a crushing 11-3 win over the Bad Dogs on Table 3, showcasing their dominance with Jarrah Schaefer and Nathaniel Harris-Jones leading the charge. Schaefer secured three victories, including a four-set thriller against Gary Hocking, while Harris-Jones swept Jedda Hardcastle and Dapo Olutayo with ease, and Melissa Schaefer added two straight-set wins over Hardcastle. Cameron Beal’s five-set battle against Schaefer couldn’t salvage the Bad Dogs’ night. On Table 1, the Raiders overpowered the Mismatches 10-4, propelled by Eion McIlduff’s four wins, including a clean sweep of Lenny Van Der Linde. Andrew Telford and Dale Bachmann supported with key victories, Bachmann outlasting Joel Schaefer in four sets. Daniel Black fought back for the Mismatches, securing three wins, including a straight-set triumph over McIlduff, but the Raiders’ consistency and depth underscored their B Grade supremacy in these lopsided encounters.

In C Grade, The Bears and BZ Top battled to a tense 7-7 draw on Table 4, with John Malicdem anchoring The Bears with three wins, including a dramatic five-set victory (11-7) over Brenton Lewis and a doubles rout alongside Maurice Wilson. Wilson added two wins, edging Rick Gentile in five sets, but Ezekiel Coutts countered for BZ Top, sweeping Lorraine Halleday three times and clinching a tight win over Malicdem. On Table 6, Average Joes dominated Aman 11-3, with Richard Van Der Linde and Matthew Scott each claiming three victories, overpowering Marga Steele and Nudee Cook. Steele’s early win over David New was Aman’s lone highlight, as David Williamson and New sealed the rout, showcasing C Grade’s mix of tight competition and decisive outcomes.
